Carton packaging the New Vision way

We march to the beat of our own drum here at New Vision Packaging. We’re not afraid to be a little different – in fact, we’re proud of it.

Where the big boys in our industry are about growth at any cost, we’re more about providing elite service. We carefully curate a list of suppliers and hand-pick who we work with to make sure we can deliver show-stopping end results with jaw-dropping speed to market. That genuine, personal touch makes us a bit of an outlier in the packaging industry, and this bespoke approach filters down into everything we do.

No matter how simple or complex the brief is, we do it the New Vision way. That’s why the cartonboard packaging we produce stands on its own in this industry. We get it, though – talk is cheap. Where’s the evidence of all this excellence?

Well, you’re in luck. We’ve broken down three different jobs we did for three very distinct brands. The end results are aimed at very different audiences and are wildly different in almost every way – except for their quality. So, whether you’re an everyday brand looking to lend your essentials an air of excitement, or a luxury name seeking exclusive, premium packaging, read on – this is what we do.

One of our most iconic jobs, the advent calendar we made for artisanal confectionary brand Candy Kittens really stands out from the crowd – literally! While we could describe in detail the FSC-certified cartonboard we used to match Candy Kittens’ organic brand identity – they’re naturally flavoured and vegan – or the spot gloss varnish detailing of this packaging, that would rob it of its magic. The joy of this packaging is in its concept, which is the foundation of all great packaging.

We came up with the idea of taking the interactive element of an advent calendar one step further, creating a cartonboard Christmas tree that the end user could assemble themselves. Each tree came complete with 25 mini cartons packed with sweets, which slotted satisfyingly into the tree like ornaments. The end result looked stunning at home or when used as part of a POS display – see for yourself!

The Candy Kittens set made one heck of a statement on the shelf – but it’s the kind of statement that not every brand should make. If you have a brand identity that’s more about an elegant, minimalist sense of cool, you can take inspiration from our collaboration with Ted Baker on its Est 88 fragrance.

The brief for this pack meant we had to avoid what the brand saw as a boring, square fragrance box – our partner wanted something with layering and depth to catch the eye on the shelf.

We used a premium white-backed folding boxboard printed in a delicate pale pink on both sides, an important detail which makes for a cohesive, high-end opening experience. To lend a (literal) premium touch to the coloured board, we coated it with a tactile soft-touch varnish. The carton exterior featured a distinctive aperture, revealing a hidden panel that was lined with rose gold foil. This panel was debossed with a subtle fluted effect, lending further depth to the carton that rewards close inspection.

Of course, when dealing with luxury fashion, big names count for a lot. We finished the carton with that iconic Ted Baker typeface and the Est 88 branding, both slightly debossed and printed with matching rose gold foil. The end result was a pack that seems simple, but on closer inspection, is packed with luxurious details that delight the senses.

That famous New Vision attention to detail can be used to add depth and excitement to simple ideas. It can also be used to bring the most outlandish, colourful concepts to life! For evidence of that, look no further than our acclaimed Flying Scotch Dram gift set packaging.

Now, alcoholic gift sets are ten-a-penny these days. According to market data by Kantar, 4.1 million consumers now name spirits as their go-to gift of choice. So it takes something really special to stand out. Luckily for our customers at The Famous Grouse, really special is our speciality!

The Famous Grouse is a household name Scotch whisky brand with a great line of dram miniatures. When they approached us to create a cartonboard gift set containing four miniature whiskies, we saw it as a great opportunity to have some fun and really push the envelope when it comes to cartonboard packaging.

And so, the Flying Scotch Dram was born. A reinforced 703-micron kraft board pack modelled after the world’s most famous steam locomotive, the Flying Scotsman. Restraint went out the window with this exquisitely designed combination of form and function. Following a complex folded design, four-colour lithography, an all-over water-based varnish, and careful detailing using hi-build spot gloss varnish, the Flying Scotch Dram was ready to make its first journey.

Of course, every steam train needs its passengers. To carry the relatively heavy glass bottles securely, we used a card fitment and a vac-form plinth made from recycled PET, made with 90% recycled content. This ensured the bottles remained correctly oriented in transit, so they presented beautifully on the shelf.

So, that’s the New Vision way. It’s minimalism. It’s maximalism. It’s whatever-you-need-ism, and it’s never quite what you’d expect. But crucially, it’s always quality. No matter what your needs are, you can trust us to revitalise your packaging lines. If you’d like to learn more, just get in touch today!
